" FânFest began in Rosia Montana in 2004, being the first protest and environmental festival in Romania. It had aimed above all at being a festival that pleaded for a clean environment and a sound sustainable development in the Apuseni Mountains, part of the Carpathian chain.
As a pioneer of environmentally-focussed festivals, FânFest has gradually evolved into the most vibrant environmental and musical event in the country.
In our view, FânFest is not only a music-style festival, but a manifestation that puts forward the care and concern for the environment, challenging the participants with enquiries into extensive mining and ecological imbalance, as well as individual responsibility for the well-being of our planet. The inspiration for the event, organized entirely by volunteers, bares in mind the most important environmental campaign in Romania – Save Rosia Montana – and the struggle of the local population thriving to protect their lands.
